x. What is your secret guaranteed weeping movie?
I can't actually remember the last time I cried at a film. I'm sure there must've been at least one occasion since Silent Running when I was about 12, but I'm blanking on it.
x. Do you have a completely irrational fear?
Caterpillars, centipedes, anything with more legs than it ought to have. No idea why. It's not like I've ever met a 50' long caterpillar that wanted to eat my ears or anything like that.
x. What is the little physical habit that gives away your insecure moment?
Rubbing the back of my neck, I think. Hard to say without having an insecure moment on tap to observe.
x. Are you a pyromaniac?
Oh yes. ;)
x. Do you have too many love interests?
Define "too many" - but no, I don't think so.
x. Describe your bed.
King size divan with brushed cotton sheets and a duvet. Two pillows on my side, one on the other. Within reaching distance of a bookcase.
x. Spontaneous or plan?
Plan if there are going to be more than a very few people involved. Cat-herding drives me nuts.
x. Do you know how to play poker?
Yes, though I'm usually very bad at it.
x. What do you miss most about being little?
Having spare time. And being cute (I was, when I was about four or so)
x. Are you happy with your given name?
Yes, though for everyday use it gets shortened.
x. How much money would it take to get you to give up the Internet for one year?
Several million pounds, minimum. I was tempted to answer that there was not enough money in the world, but I'm sure I have my price... it would be a very large one.
x. Do you consider yourself to be a nice person?
No matter how hard I sometimes try to persuade people that I am actually a cast-iron bitch, underneath it all I'm just fluffy. So yes, unfortunately I am.
x. Do you spend more time with your boyfriend or your friends?
I spend more time with my husband, given that we share a house and all that other fun married stuff.
x. What's one thing you wish you could do but can't?
Use another language with confidence. I have qualifications in three languages other than my own (French, German, and more recently Spanish) but I am horribly shy and/or crap when it comes to speaking them.
x. What is your ideal marriage location?
The one we used? (Exeter College chapel, Oxford)
x. Which musical instrument do you wish you could play?
x. Something you love and hate?
x. What kind of bedding do you use?
See above (nice sheets, duvet)
x. Do you tell your friends about your sex life?
Depends on the friends. Some hear almost all of it, some hear some of it, some hear none (and I'm willing to bet that most of them like it that way)
x. What's the one language you want to learn?
Latin. I did a very few classes in it at college but they didn't have enough interest to carry them on.
x. Do you drive stick?
I'm in the UK; it'd be hard not to. Yes, I mostly drive a manual car, though rotwang's is an automatic.
x. What's one trait you hate in a person?
x. Most frivolous purchase?
Good gods, where to start. There are some severely pricey first editions/limited editions/etc. on my shelves. And then there was the trip to the US to see my favourite band in concert. But I suspect the visit to the set of a certain then-popular SF TV series probably wins in this category.
x. Do you consider yourself materialistic?
Yes. I am, at heart, a material girl.
x. What do you cook the best?
Simple savoury: lasagne. Complex savoury: various hors d'oeuvres and nibbles. Sweets: white chocolate mousse, Delia Smith's chocolate bread and butter pudding, Pimms & Lemonade jelly.
x. Favorite writing instrument?
A biro - I lose anything fancier.
x. Do you prefer to stand out or blend in?
Blend in, mostly.
x. What kind of books do you like to read?
Almost anything I can get my hands on... SF, fantasy and thrillers are the main categories.
x. If you won the lottery, what would you do?
Pay off the mortgage, buy some more books, get the extension built so that I had somewhere to store them, and have several very pleasant holidays. Buy some nice things for friends and relatives. Give some of the money to charity.
x. If you don't like a person, how do you show it?
Icy politeness. Actually, that's more if they piss me off rather than if I don't like them. If I don't like them, I try to stay out of their way as much as I can.
x. Do you cry in front of friends?
Not if I can help it.
x. What kind of first impression do you think you give to people?
"Who's the weirdo?"
x. Are you a giver or a taker?
A giver. At least I like to think so.
x. When's the last time you cried?
I don't actually remember, which means it must be a good few weeks back. It's possible that it was when the folks at the hospital told me they wanted to give me a general anaesthetic in early February, and I was scared absolutely witless.
x. How many drinks before you're tipsy?
Four or five, maybe? (obviously it depends on the drink). I am an expensive drunk. ;)
x. Do you ever have to beg?
Have to? No. Want to? Sometimes. ;)
x. Do you think you're cute?
Not since I was about four, no.
x. Do you have problems changing clothes in front of friends?
x. What's the most painful experience you've ever had?
Physical pain? The time I had an abscess on a front tooth and couldn't sleep all night from the pain. Emotional pain? Not sure - probably some silly crush as a teenager (well, I'm sure it felt like the worst thing in the world then)
