The "Why The F**k Did I Ever Think A Ph.D. Was A Good Idea?" Emergency Survival Kit

My sister, drown_not_wave's controlling entity, has been sounding increasingly stressed of late. That would, I feel, be something to do with the two and a half months of funding left on her PhD, and the whole thesis-writing concept (quantumboo, I can hear that "hell, yeah!" from here).

I have put together a little care package for her, which I will be taking down to the post office later on today. (This post is friends-locked only so that she doesn't see it, I should add.) edit: the parcel has now been received so no need for the lock

The contents:

  • One copy of MagCulture: New Magazine Design (originally bought as a birthday present but hey, she can have it early)
  • One copy of ELLE Decoration, a magazine she enjoys but can't usually afford to spend the money on
  • Half a bottle of vodka
  • One packet of Rocket Fuel coffee
  • One packet of Pro-Plus
  • Herbal anti-stress remedy
  • Herbal sleep-helping pills (yes, I realise this may be incompatible with some of the above)
  • Large packet of fun-size chocolate bars
  • Six tubes of Smarties
  • Five bars of assorted Lindt chocolate
  • Packet of highlighter pens
  • Packet of glitter gel pens (she has a stationery fetish)
  • Two packets of batteries -- for a girl's best friend
  • Some CDs (varying from Apocalyptica to Aqua via Irish Drinking Songs)
  • A calendar

The calendar is not an ordinary calendar. It includes July 1st - 67th or so, August 1st - 70th, and is blank after the 17th September (which is the date her money runs out -- I hope...). I've included appropriate imagery. January and February are peaceful, pastoral scenes. April is a shark fin cutting through the water. Later months include someone tearing their hair out, someone in a straitjacket, and suchlike, and September itself is a nuclear detonation... October, November and December are just plain black.

Hope she likes it, 'cause I suspect it's going to cost me a moderate-sized fortune to post ;)
