Optimism in the face of suboptimality

This has not been an entirely optimal week. (Pause for laughter from those who've witnessed it.)

Work is rapidly turning into a Dilbert cartoon (still, at least most of those involved on both sides are accepting that this is, in fact, what's happening).

My car is occupying driveway space until the garage turn up to look at it; Monday was the fifth anniversary of my having owned it and, coincidentally, the day the starter motor decided to breathe its last.

I spent most of this morning sitting around having unaccustomed crevices poked (no, no, nothing that interesting - there was some survey work being done on our drains).

Various people are running around like headless chickens trying to sort out the last few details for this weekend's wedding (following last weekend's stag party).

I still can't figure out where the blasted ants in the kitchen are coming from. Only a very few at a time, just enough to be annoying.

I couldn't arrange to send flowers to my uncle's funeral because of time differences and lack of information (he died Saturday, I heard Sunday, found out time of funeral Monday evening, funeral was Tuesday 11am in GMT+2... oh well)

And it's still too damn hot.

But still...

The garage are coming tomorrow to help me get the car round to them.

rotwang picked me up from the office today and surprised me with roses.

caffeine_fairy, despite all sorts of stress on her side as well, is still remaining calm and chirpy, which makes the office situation rather easier.

The weather forecast for the wedding no longer includes rain, and it should be a bit cooler than it has been for the last few days.

I have found shoes to wear to the wedding (and they were £20 reduced from £90, even better).
