Time Event
9:29a
A good weekend all round, possibly aside from losing rotwang to Orlando for the week...

Friday night, once the Vegetables Of Ultimate Doom had finally made their way to our door, I cooked; veal marsala with roasted vegetables and broccoli, followed by tarte tatin and creme fraiche. Very tasty if I do say so myself.

Lounged around on Saturday, then headed up into town to do a bit of shopping before going on to C (WINOLJ)'s birthday dinner. I managed to find a copy of Civilization IV (well, there goes my productivity for the next while), a couple of CDs and a DVD, and also one of these sets of studio lights, for more camera experimentation. The lights all pack down into a reasonably carryable box, in terms of size and weight, though you have to factor in the crowds on Oxford St for that; "reasonably carryable" does not necessarily equate to "small".

On Sunday DocPotempkin and I met up for Dim Sum followed by the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum. Busy though that exhibition was, it had nothing on the queues for the Dinosaurs exhibition (mind you, the average age of visitors to the WPofY one was probably 30-something, and the average age of visitors to the Dinosaurs one more like about 10). Some very impressive stuff there; I think this one, this one, this one and this one are my favourites. I would say "something to aspire to" but the vast majority of the prize-winning photos appeared to have been taken by people who trekked up mountains for several days, hid up a jungle tree in the pouring rain or spent a week standing around waiting for the animal/bird concerned to do the right thing; I suspect I just don't have the perseverance for this sort of photography ;)

I have just volunteered to help my local book fair sort their SF/Fantasy stuff onto a separate table -- they have truly stupendous amounts of books (50k was their estimate from last year) and it's a nightmare trying to find specific stuff in amongst all that.

And it means that I get to see what they've got ahead of the dealers' preview night, which I already had an invite to. ;)
