And about bloody time too...

At last I have managed to make the script I've been intermittently banging on for the last couple of months work... hurrah. Giving up on the Perl modules which are supposed to interface to the program I wanted to work with, and just using file-handling to get the data to and from the program concerned, was the key. In fairness I suspect I have been working with very little-used code which may not have received the testing and attention that the more mainstream stuff would.

So now things happen, and the script even gives a you a little haiku to tell you whether it did or did not find out anything useful (look, don't blame me, my colleague jokingly asked if that could be included and it was too tempting to resist)
